Is 5% Nicotine Strength A Lot For Vape Juice?

There is no question about it, the vape juices out there that contain 5% nicotine in them are definitely strong. They are, in fact, very strong. They’re really only made possible through nicotine salts, which have been carefully engineered over the years to vape smoothly at high concentrations. Before nic salts came along, 5% strength e-liquids were virtually unheard of. The reason for this being that e-liquid made at 5% strength using freebase nicotine, which was used to create nicotine e-liquid long before nic salts arrived on the scene, would be way too harsh for just about anyone to actually use. Vapers trying to vape 5% strength juice made from freebase nic would cough their brains out (not literally), making it entirely unreasonable and essentially pointless.

Nicotine Salts Have Been A Game Changer

The nic salts that are used today aren’t what they once were. When the idea first came about as it relates to e-liquid production, nic salt wasn’t anything like it is now. It was, in many ways, worse than the freebase nic already in use by e-liquid manufacturers. This changed, however, when scientists began engineering it to improve important characteristics such as its taste, the rate at which it’s absorbed by the user when vaped, and the smoothness of the vapour that it creates when heated. Today’s nic salts boast all of these improvements, making them superb additions to e-liquids.

Without making them smoother, though, nic salts would not be used as they are today. It is because they are so much smoother now that vape juice companies can use them to create juices that are extremely potent as far as their nicotine concentration is concerned, which is why you now have the option of 5% strength vape liquids and similar concentrations.

5% Nicotine May Be A Lot But Many Vapers Still Use It

There are many vapers around the world that use 5% strength nicotine, even if it is perhaps too high for most. Given that it’s a very high concentration to be vaping, the only ones that should even consider it are heavy smokers that are trying to switch to vaping and feel as if they need a high strength e-liquid to successfully switch. Otherwise, 5% is probably too much.

In some places, the local government has stepped in and put a cap on the nicotine strength of e-liquids sold locally. In the European Union, for example, vapers can’t buy e-liquid at 5% strength at local stores because the limit is much lower. The EU cap is set at 20mg/ml, which is 2% strength. Canada has proposed lowering its limit from 66mg/ml to 20mg/ml, bringing it in line with the EU’s limit.

For those that don’t quite understand how much nicotine is in a 5% strength bottle, the answer is 50mg/ml.

Some have gone as far as to say that vape juices that contain 2% are more than adequate for heavy smokers switching to vaping. That’s worth keeping in mind when considering using a 5% strength vape liquid. If you’re not sure if it’s right for you, you might consider trying a lower strength juice to see if it’s a good fit. After all, you can always move up if you’re certain you need to.

Do Nic Salts Work With All Vapes?

Not too long ago, the answer to this question was a resounding no. The reason being that nic salt e-liquids aren’t supported by sub-ohm vapes, which are popular with some vapers. Today, however, there are a number of nic salt vape juices on the open market with really low concentrations of nicotine, such as 3mg and 6mg, which are supported by sub-ohm vapes. As a rule of thumb, exercise caution when attempting to use nic salt e-juice with a vape. Make absolutely sure beforehand that your vape actually supports the juice that you’re trying to use before attempting to vape it. That’s the safest way to go about it. If you’re using a sub-ohm device, chances are that most e-juices containing nicotine salt that you come across will not be compatible. You very specifically want to be using a sub-ohm supported nic salt juice if you’re intent on vaping nic salts with a sub-ohm vape.
